”It´s always the same thing, the last week before pension I survive drinking tap-water and the occasional tomato. Sometimes I´ve gone two weeks, only drinking water.”
The above statement is by Arne, 71 years old, a likeable Swedish pensioner who loves to draw and take photographs. He lives together with his slightly ragged but beloved cat Silvia in an apartment in Malmoe, Sweden. Arne is one of the three pensioners featured in the film.
”This is a film that challenges a well established myth in my country; ”Nobody needs to starve in Sweden. And if so, it must be their own fault”. The film focuses on three likeable, well-behaved pensioners, who every month, year after year, face the same problem – the pension is too low and the costs are too high. As a result of this they go through the last period of the month surviving mainly by drinking water and occasionally eat a fruit or trying to catch a fish, in order to get by.”
There is a high degree of identification in this film – this could happen to anyone of us, to you or me.
Patrik Book, director.
