Hanna Markkanen

Hanna is a creative documentary film producer at WG Film. Since joining WG in 2018, she has worked closely on the entire slate of WG’s projects together with producer Margarete Jangård, first as junior producer and since 2021 as producer. Her first film as producer, Daughters (dir. Jenifer Malmqvist) premiered in competition at CPH:DOX and Visions du Reel 2022 and was nominated for two Swedish Guldbagge 2023 Awards, winning Best Editing. She has also worked on other award winning WG titles, such as PUSH (dir. Fredrik Gertten) and Jozi Gold (dir. Sylvia Vollenhoven and Fredrik Gertten). Currently working on several projects in development and production, including international co-productions.

Hanna has served as an external expert for both AVEK (The Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture Finland) and Creative Europe. In 2024, she took part in the first Nordic-wide certification training for sustainability in audiovisual productions organised by the Nordic film institutes and Stuttgart Media University, and became a certified Green Consultant. Hanna has also been working as a festival programmer and coordinator at Savonlinna International Nature Film Festival in Finland for several years. She has an MA in Film & Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen and an undergraduate degree in Film & TV Studies from the University of Glasgow.
